Chapter 2 – DOMIQ Products

DOMIQ is a building automation integration system that lets you combine many commonly occurring subsystems of a smart building into a single, coherent system. Thanks to this integration, information can be exchanged between subsystems, which allows for configuring better control algorithms and using shared user interfaces on mobile devices, touch panels, and computers. Thanks to the ability to define an unlimited number of conditional events and time-based rules, the DOMIQ system significantly simplifies the process of automating a building. Remote access increases the installer’s flexibility and lets the user check the building’s status from anywhere in the world.

1. DOMIQ/Base 2.0 #

DOMIQ Base 2.0 is the central module of the DOMIQ building automation system. It connects devices and installations from various manufacturers, processes data, executes automation logic, and provides interfaces for controlling the building.

The system operates locally, which means the core functions, scenes, and automations remain available even if the Internet connection is lost.

1.1. System configuration and management #

DOMIQ Base 2.0 offers a convenient configuration interface accessible directly from a web browser. It enables, among other things:

  • configuring devices and systems in the Integrations tab;
  • creating time-based rules and schedules;
  • defining events, conditions, and dependencies;
  • designing user interfaces;
  • managing the DOMIQ Remote app;
  • creating and editing Lua scripts;
  • updating the module’s software;
  • performing installation diagnostics.

Access to the configurator on the local network can be done using the device’s IP address or its name, e.g. domiq-numer-seryjny.local, thanks to mDNS support.

1.2. Automation, scenes, and building logic #

Base 2.0 allows you to create both simple automations and elaborate scenarios covering multiple installations at once.

Functionality includes:

  • creating time-based rules and schedules;
  • defining conditional events in the Events tab;

  • creating scenes covering lighting, heating, blinds, air conditioning, the alarm system, ventilation, and energy management;
  • reacting instantly to a change in a device’s state, a sensor reading, a specific time, or another event in the building;
  • triggering scenes and events by reading NFC tags;
  • the ability to define an unlimited number of events, conditions, and dependencies – with no limit on the number of rules known from the previous generation of Base.

1.3. Clock and astronomical automations #

DOMIQ Base 2.0 has a built-in astronomical real-time clock, which lets you make automation depend on the time of day as well as sunrise and sunset.

The module provides:

  • battery backup for the clock;

Using Base as a segment coupler can simplify the architecture of a large installation, reduce the number of additional devices, and speed up its programming. LCN integration documentation.

1.6. Integration with the KNX system #

Integration with a KNX installation is achieved using the additional DOMIQ KNX module, which works together with the DOMIQ Base 2.0 unit.

Connecting DOMIQ with KNX enables:

  • two-way communication between KNX devices and the DOMIQ system;
  • using KNX states and commands in Base 2.0’s scenes, events, and logic;
  • controlling KNX devices from the DOMIQ Remote app;
  • displaying KNX devices and parameters on DOMIQ visualizations;

  • using a KNX and LCN installation simultaneously in one building;
  • gradual expansion or modernization of a building without having to give up an existing installation;
  • creating shared scenes and automations covering devices operating on different standards.

DOMIQ Base can also act as a KNX tunneling server. This allows KNX devices to be programmed without the need for a separate router or KNX/IP interface.

As a result, the system can have a simpler architecture, require fewer devices, and offer more convenient configuration and servicing. Base 2.0, together with the DOMIQ KNX module, can serve as the central logic and management layer for an installation that simultaneously uses KNX, LCN, Modbus, BACnet, MQTT, and other technologies. Description of the DOMIQ KNX module.

Not all of the standards listed above are available solely through Base 2.0 itself:

  • BACnet/IP requires an additional license;
  • KNX requires the DOMIQ KNX module;
  • DALI requires the DOMIQ Light module, and, for an extensive installation with many ballasts, additional modules and licenses as well;
  • DMX-512 requires the Serial-4DX module;
  • Modbus RTU requires the Serial-4MB module;
  • communication via RS-232 and RS-485 requires the appropriate Serial module;
  • SATEL integration via ETHM requires an appropriate license;
  • some ready-made integrations may require a separate license tied to the Base’s serial number.

Confirmation of the required modules and licenses can be found in the current DOMIQ offer.

2. DOMIQ/Serial #

DOMIQ/Serial modules are manufactured in two versions, differing in their electrical interface:

  1. RS-232 – for short-distance communication between a pair of devices
  2. RS-485 – for longer-distance communication as well as communication with multiple devices

The individual module types also differ in their software, which is always tailored to the specific communication protocol.

Starting from revision R9, modules in the RS-485 version have a jumper that allows the built-in terminator to be disconnected, making it possible to connect multiple modules simultaneously (e.g. D-S4SG-1) or to install a module “in the middle” of the RS-485 bus.

Individual modules are handled via state, command, and event identifiers dedicated to each module type.

3. DOMIQ/DALI Light #

The DOMIQ/DALI Light module enables control of lighting installations based on the DALI standard. In accordance with the DALI standard, up to 64 DALI devices can be connected to the DOMIQ/DALI Light module.

Expanding the installation with additional ballasts is possible using the DOMIQ DALI Light Additional module and a license. The controller provides full two-way communication. Key features of the Light module:

  1. an automatic fixture addressing algorithm (lamps are addressed simultaneously and automatically);
  2. information on the current brightness level and any ballast faults;
  3. controlling a single ballast or all DALI ballasts simultaneously;
  4. assigning ballasts to groups (each ballast can belong to up to 16 groups);
  5. saving and loading light scenes (each ballast can have up to 16 scenes);
  6. changing ballast operating parameters such as: minimum brightness, maximum brightness, ramp, and brightness step.

4. DOMIQ/Expander #

The DOMIQ/Expander module was designed for integrating and controlling Satel-brand expanders. It allows the connection of up to 32 INT-IORS or INT-ORS expanders.

When using INT-IORS expanders, it allows building a system with as many as 256 binary inputs and outputs. Doorbell-type or bistable push buttons, motion sensors, reed switches, and other devices capable of driving the expander’s inputs can be connected to the inputs. Any devices can be connected to the outputs, e.g. lights, blinds, electrical socket circuits, etc.

5. DOMIQ/Remote #

6. DOMIQ Licenses #

DOMIQ’s offer includes licenses that expand the system’s capabilities with additional integrations and features tailored to a specific installation. They can be found in the DOMIQ online store, in the Licenses section. Each license activates a specific functionality in the DOMIQ Base module or enables the use of an additional module or app. This allows the installer to expand the system with exactly the capabilities a given project requires. Most licenses are permanently assigned to a specific DOMIQ Base module and cannot be transferred to another device. The current offer includes:

DALI LIGHT – an activation license for each additional DOMIQ Light module, supporting an independent segment of up to 64 DALI devices.

REMOTE – enables the use of the DOMIQ Remote app by an additional user; the Base module already includes one user license.

BACnet –enables integration of DOMIQ with devices and systems using the BACnet/IP protocol.

ETHM – allows DOMIQ to be integrated with a SATEL Integra alarm control panel via the ETHM-1 or ETHM-1 Plus module and the local network, without using the Serial-2SI module.

WATERING – activates the automatic garden watering control function, along with the ability to configure irrigation schedules and parameters.

WATERGATE – enables integration with the Watergate Sonic valve and the creation of automatic rules and scenarios for managing water supply.
