Chapter 3 – Connecting: First Steps

If you are about to re-edit the Base module’s configuration, always make a backup first, so that you can easily restore the previous settings later.
In this chapter, you’ll learn the steps needed to start up the DOMIQ system for the first time.

1. Connecting #

Connect the neutral wire to the blue terminal (N), and the phase wire to the grey terminal (L).
If your installation is equipped with an LCN bus, connect the LCN bus wire to the orange terminal (D).
NOTE: If the LCN bus is connected to the Base module and the LCN installation is powered from a different phase, you should use LCN-IS galvanic isolation modules to protect the Base module from damage in case the neutral wire is accidentally disconnected.
The EXT connector is used for communication with the system’s expansion modules.
The module should also be connected to the local network using an Ethernet cable with an RJ-45 connector. Connecting the module to the network is required for its configuration and for control via the DOMIQ/Remote mobile app.

It’s recommended that the DOMIQ Base 2.0 module have access to the Internet. This access is required for:

  • Remote control of the system (outside the range of the local Wi-Fi).
  • Downloading DOMIQ Base 2.0 software updates.
  • Synchronizing the real-time clock with internet time servers using the SNTP protocol.

Once started, the Base module obtains an IP address from a DHCP server available on the local network. If this isn’t possible, an address is automatically assigned using the AUTOIP standard.

In addition to the standard Ethernet connection, the Base 2.0 module offers a USB-C port for diagnostics and a microSD card slot. Once started, the module is available on the local network under the friendly name domiq-serialnumber.local, which eliminates the need to manually check its IP address. All communication parameters for external systems are now configured in the new, central Integrations tab.

2. First login
#

DOMIQ/Base has a built-in configuration interface, hereafter referred to as the configurator. For it to work, you need a web browser that supports HTML5 and JavaScript, edition ES6 or later.
All configuration changes made in the configurator’s individual tabs are stored locally in the browser until the Save button is pressed within that tab.
Some configurator tabs have a Restore button. Pressing this button restores the last saved configuration.

2.1. Finding the DOMIQ/Base 2.0 module on the local network
#

The configurator can be launched in two ways:

  • By entering the friendly address domiq-serialnumber.local in your browser, e.g.: domiq-ABCDE6.local
  • By entering the Base 2.0 module’s IP address

How can you find the IP address of the DOMIQ Base 2.0 module? (The previous module version is described below.)
#

Access by name (mDNS)
The most important new feature in Base 2.0 is the ability to connect to the module using a friendly name such as domiq-numer_seryjny.local (e.g. domiq-aabbcc.local) instead of an IP address. This eliminates the main purpose of DOMIQ/Discover, which was to find the device’s IP address on the local network in order to launch the configurator.

Using your router’s statistics
Log in to your router and check the list of connected network devices. The Base module’s serial number (found on the front label of the enclosure) is also the last 6 digits of the Base module’s network card MAC address.

Using external apps for reading device IP addresses on the local network.
For Windows, e.g.: Advance IP Scanner; for macOS, e.g.: the IP Scanner app

Using the command line (any operating system)
In the command line window, enter the command: arp -a. In the results, look for the Base module’s MAC address, which starts with 00:40:9D.

How can you find the IP address of the DOMIQ Base module (1.0, ver. 1B or 1C)? #

Only for DOMIQ Base (1.0) modules, using the DOMIQ/Discover app (Windows only)
The DOMIQ/Discover app, available for download at www.domiq.pl, detects all DOMIQ/Base modules
connected to a given local network.
In addition, the Discover app lets you record logs from the DOMIQ/Base module’s operation. To open the log window, double-click the Base module’s IP address. Console messages can be useful for troubleshooting.

Using your router’s statistics
Log in to your router and check the list of connected network devices. The Base module’s serial number (found on the front label of the enclosure) is also the last 6 digits of the Base module’s network card MAC address.

Using the command line (any operating system)
In the command line window, enter the command: arp -a. In the results, look for the Base module’s MAC address, which starts with 00:40:9D.

2.2. Launching the configurator #

After entering the module’s IP address, or using the name with the serial number (friendly name), in your web browser, the login screen will load.
Default login credentials: (Username) admin, (Password) admin for administrative access, and (Username) user, (Password) user for user access (visualization mode only).

After clicking the Configuration button, you’ll be logged in to the configuration interface. The configurator has a tabbed structure. The individual tabs are described later in this manual.

Once you’ve accessed the configurator in your browser with administrator privileges, you can edit the friendly name for the DOMIQ/Base 2.0 module instead of using the serial number or IP address. How do you do this? In the Settings tab, edit the Name field – enter your own, easy-to-remember name. Then click the Save button to save the changes. After saving, your DOMIQ/Base 2.0 module will be available at the addresstwoja-nazwa.local. The system will automatically replace spaces with hyphens and replace Polish diacritical characters with their non-accented equivalents.

After clicking the Visualization button, the visualization screen will be displayed, letting you control the DOMIQ system from the visualization. The Full-screen visualization option lets you display the visualization filling the entire browser window. In this mode, the size of the visualization can be smoothly adjusted by resizing the browser window.

2.3. Home screen #

After logging in to the configuration interface, the home screen will be displayed. It mainly contains information about the module’s status, along with useful links and contact details.
It also contains two options regarding the software status:

  1. Automatically check for updates – If this option is enabled, the module checks for available system updates after login. Disabling this option speeds up access to the interface after logging in.
  2. The software status can have one of three values:

Up to date – Your system is up to date.
Update required – Newer software versions are available. In this case, the status also becomes a link to the Updates window.
Error retrieving update status – Displayed when the Base module was unable to retrieve the update status.

2.4. Setting access credentials
#

After logging in to the configurator for the first time, it’s recommended that you change the access logins and passwords. To change the passwords and logins, select the Users tab. The tab is divided into three sections: User Access, Administrative Access, and Remote LCN.

2.4.1. User Access #

This section configures the access options for the user. The user only has access to the visualization. With user permissions, it isn’t possible to log in to the configuration part of the system. The following parameters can be modified:

  1. Access: The visualization access mode. The following values are possible:
    • Local network only – visualization access is possible only for computers connected to the same local network as DOMIQ/Base 2.0.
    • Entire Internet – visualization access is possible both from the local network and over the Internet.
  2. Username: The user identifier to be entered to access the visualization.
  3. Password: The user’s password to be entered to access the visualization.

2.4.2. Administrative Access #

This section configures the access parameters for the configuration interface.

  2. Username: The user identifier to be entered to access the configurator.
  3. Password: The user’s password to be entered to access the configurator.

For remote configuration of the system, we recommend setting up a VPN connection. If this isn’t possible, you should forward, in your router’s configuration, a port matching the configurator’s WEB port setting – 80 by default (Settings tab).

2.4.3. LCN programming #

The DOMIQ Base and DOMIQ Base 2.0 modules can act as a coupler to the LCN system. This section configures the access parameters to the LCN bus for the LCN-PRO or LCN-PRO+ application. The following parameters can be modified:

  1. Access: The access mode for LCN-PRO (or LCN-PRO+). The following values are possible:
    • Disabled – access disabled.
    • Local network only – access possible only for computers connected to the same local network as DOMIQ/Base 2.0.
    • Entire Internet – access possible both from the local network and from outside it.
  2. User: The user identifier to be entered in LCN-PRO or LCN-PRO+.
  3. Password: The user’s password to be entered in LCN-PRO or LCN-PRO+.
